I tried a little bit over the weekend to not be horrible. But it wasn’t outstanding. I stayed away from sugary Starbucks drinks though, that has to count for something? Right? But it gets worse 😦 I’m not planning on always dedicating a full blog post to my eating on the weekend but it’s my first weekend trying. And well I felt like sharing my failure is the best way to own up to it and put it past me.
Our short road-trip started at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. We picked up one of J2’s teammates and were on our way. We arrived early and J2 and I had not eaten breakfast, so we rolled into IHOP with the full on agreement of our guest passenger. Geesh IHOP, they have so many NOT GOOD options. But they also have some decent ones. I chose something in the middle. The MACHACA! Yummy shredded beef with scrambled eggs, onions, jalapenos, and tomatoes. And cheese, lots of cheese. I ate mine with corn tortillas. And I only ate about half which is a win in my book.
The boys had a 12 p.m. game and we had a break long enough to seek out a late lunch before the next game started. J2 was searching for food and picked Torchy’s Tacos. Again, healthy options here and I barely met healthy halfway in the middle. I had a Mr. Pink (Ahi Tuna) and a Beef Fajita taco. I ended up not eating most of the corn tortillas they came in so another small win. More cheese!
After the 4 p.m. game we finally get to rest some at our hotel. But some of the team is trying to meet up at Buffalo Wild Wings. Yummo! Wings! My favorite! Of course I could eat a salad but why would I? Wings. I ate 8. Five with Asian Zing sauce and 3 with Mango Habanero sauce. And a serving or two of potato wedges with … say it with me… CHEESE. And I happily washed those down with 2 beers. Tall ones. So is that really 4 beers? UGH.
And after we got back to hotel, I was staying up to wait for the tournament results, so we know where we seed and how early we have to get up the next day. In my boredom, I ate some mini Oreo’s and Sour Worms that the hotel sold 😦 LOSE. LOSE. Surprisingly I slept like a champ!
So SATURDAY eating is complete. I wasn’t so much better on Sunday. We woke up about 8 a.m. and had a complimentary hotel buffet. I ate one small pancake, 2 bacon slices, 1 sausage patty and some fruit. J2 proceeded to eat a lot more and I went back to our room. We had a 1:15 game and we weren’t hungry before the game so it was going to be a long while before food if they won because the next game was at 3 p.m., unless I hit up the concession stand! The boys won. And I just kept chugging water! No concession food for me. Win or lose, I would have to eat between games or on the way home. We decided to get halfway home before we stopped to eat, but to hold us over we got Sour Patch Kids and Beef Jerky. One small bag of each, but they were gone within 20 minutes of us leaving.
When you’re on the road in East Texas, well anywhere in Texas, there isn’t much to chose from without driving into a town. Options are Whataburger, Dairy Queen, McDonald’s and typically a Taco Bell, Burger King or Jack-in-the-Box. Whataburger is the family favorite so we stop there. I had 3/4 of a Whataburger Jr. and some fries but I left most of them.
We get home a little over an hour later. I still have to pick up some groceries for the kids at least so they can survive the week. E is hungry and we go to Friday’s. Yes we eat there a lot. I had an order of pan seared potstickers. I don’t know how bad they are for you but I ate them anyways.
And that was my weekend of eating!
Monday went well until dinner. And E says you want dessert? I say yes but I shouldn’t. Well I was talking to the manager of, embarrassingly, Friday’s and E puts in an order for the Brownie Obsession. I mean I wasn’t mad or anything, dessert sounded good! I planned to eat one bite. I ate several more bites than one bite. And I instantly felt miserable. I thought I was going to be sick. Even though I ate pretty crappy over the weekend, this one dessert was going to kill me. I went into a sugar coma and passed out.
No more dessert.
Daily Report (workout)
You just got my food recap so not going to repeat it here.
Friday, 9/9 – It’s been a while since I did a Friday workout. So I was happy with myself that I was showing up. I wasn’t happy with the workout. I struggled in the first round. My right hamstring is still tight. I struggled with the squat cleans even at the light weight. I didn’t finish the first round in 4 minutes. But coach wanted us to get work in so I did another round. I got real slow. And my double-unders weren’t working with me. It was horrible and I was defeated. Oh well. I worked out.
Conditioning – Crossfit Games Open Workout 16.2
Beginning on a 4-minute clock, complete as many reps as possible of:
25 toes-to-bars (modified to knee raises)
15 squat cleans, 135 / 85 lb. (modified to 65lbs)
If completed before 4 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
13 squat cleans, 185 / 115 lb. (modified to 80lbs)
If completed before 8 minutes, add 4 minutes to the clock and proceed to:
11 squat cleans, 225 / 145 lb.
And so on for 2 more rounds. Adding weight to squat cleans and less reps. Stop at 20 minutes. If you do not complete a round before the time expires you may finish that round and continue on to the next. Your score will be reps completed with the normal workout time frame.
Monday, 9/12 – Again with the hamstring. It’s painful but not crying painful. Tender is the best word. I can do the weight but I can feel everything in my right hamstring. When it came to the squat snatch, my leg was fatigued. I failed several times on the squat snatches and took my time getting back to the bar. I did however finish the workout. VERY SLOWLY but I finished.
Skill/Strenth – Front Squats
I worked at 55lbs, 70lbs, 85lbs and 105lbs
10 Squat snatch 115/75
10 HSPU (modified using a box)
Rest 1:1 – If it takes you 2 minutes to do one round. Then you rest 2 mintues. I ended taking as long as 3:47 in a round. I told you I was slow.
